1855 Bar à Vins is Now Open

1855 Bar à Vins, from the team behind La Voile, is now open with more than 250 French wines.

1855 Bar à Vins has opened at 259 Newbury Street, right above sister restaurant La Voile.  The new restaurant, born out of the La Voile team’s love of wine, pays homage to Bordeaux wines with its name: 1855 was the year of the “first official classification of Bordeaux wines following the World’s Fair in Paris.”  It also — impressively —  honors the great tradition of French wine making by offering more than 250 wines on their list.  The team will also be hosting a variety of tastings, classes, and special wine events for wine amateurs and connoisseurs alike who want to expand their knowledge..

The Bar à Vins team’s love of French wines goes beyond the massive wine list, which features well-known wines from all over France, as well as little-known gems.  The space itself is an tribute  to wine making with locally made chairs created from wine barrels, tables made from wooden wine cases, and themed art throughout the restaurant.

The menu carries on La Voile’s tradition of delicious French cuisine, served primarily in the form of small plates, for a more casual experience. They also offer a full course menus for those who want to stay for dinner, featuring exciting dishes like foie gras creme brulee with roasted sourdough, beef skirt steak with Chateaubriand sauce, and a Cabernet braised beef and mushroom risotto with aged Parmesan, among many others
